Rockbox! Radio (“we”, “us”, “our”) is operated by NorthBright Digital U.S. We operate the website at 9300.co.za and the associated live audio stream. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you visit our website, listen to our stream, or install our app as a Progressive Web App (PWA) on mobile, desktop, or TV.
2. Information We Collect
- Analytics data: We use privacy-respecting analytics tools to understand how visitors use our site — pages visited, time spent, and general geographic region. This data is aggregated and anonymous.
- Listening data: When you tune in, we log your listening session (start time, duration, approximate geographic region, and a randomly-generated unique listener ID stored in your browser). We do not store your raw IP address.
- Chat registration data: If you register for the live chat, we store your name, surname, email, and approximate location. This is used only for chat display and moderation.
- App install data: When you install the PWA, we log the install event with your unique listener ID, approximate location, and detected platform (e.g. iOS, Android, macOS, Windows, Linux). This helps us understand our audience.
- Performance data: Anonymous Core Web Vitals (load time, interactivity) are collected from real users to help us optimise page speed.
- Technical data: Browser type, device type, and referring page — collected via standard web protocols.
3. How We Use Your Information
- To understand listener patterns and improve our programming
- To display your personal listening stats (only visible to you after installing the PWA)
- To improve website performance and user experience
- To comply with legal obligations
4. Location Data
We approximate your location (country, region, city) based on your IP address using a third-party geolocation service. This data is used only to understand our global audience distribution and to show aggregate listener connections on a map. We do not store your raw IP address — only the derived geographic fields. You can use a VPN to mask your IP if you prefer not to share location data.
5. PWA, Notifications & Personal Stats
When you install Rockbox! Radio as a Progressive Web App (PWA), we generate a random, anonymous unique listener ID stored in your browser's local storage. This ID allows us to show you your personal listening stats (total sessions, listening time, average session, top location, full listener ID). These stats are a private, in-app-only feature — they are never displayed on the public website and are only shown inside the installed app. No other user can see your data, and you cannot see anyone else's. If you have not installed the PWA, no stats section is shown at all.
Schedule reminders: If you use the “Remind Me” button in the schedule, your browser will request notification permission. The reminder is scheduled locally in your browser session — no notification data is sent to our servers. Closing the tab cancels any pending reminders.
Calendar export: The “Add to my Calendar” button downloads a calendar file generated on-the-fly. No calendar data is stored server-side.
6. Cookies & Local Storage
We use browser local storage (not tracking cookies) to remember your volume preferences, equalizer settings, waveform style, and your random listener ID. This data stays on your device and is never sent to third parties. Session-based data (like scheduled reminders) is stored in sessionStorage and is cleared when you close the tab. Our analytics provider may use cookies to distinguish unique visitors.
7. Third-Party Services
We work with carefully selected third-party service providers to operate our website and stream:
- Hosting & streaming infrastructure — providers that host our website and deliver our audio stream
- Analytics provider — collects anonymous page view and performance data
- Geolocation service — approximates your location from your IP address
- Database hosting — stores listener logs and chat data with encryption in transit
We do not sell or share your data with any other third parties.
8. Your Rights

9. Data Security
We use industry-standard measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), secure database hosting with SSL, and access controls on all sensitive systems. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
10. Children's Privacy
Rockbox! Radio is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, please contact us.
