JayTee grew up with music from the ‘60’s, sneaking in to his Uncles’ room after school and listening to his music on his Hi-Fi. He was always “in tune” with the latest music listening on the great commercial stations at the time.

He spent every penny of his pocket money on vinyl, and later on “progressed” to tape and CD, but still hanging on to his vinyl.

After school he did a stint in the South African Defence Force, still listening to music. During his period at the “front”, there was no radio reception. This problem was solved by “building” an antenna (like a spiders’ web) got hold of a small speaker and connected this to an “Army Radio”, and managed to get a commercial station tuned in. Thus, he followed his passion.

He always wanted to be a sound engineer (Due to Alan Parsons) but the only school available was at the then “South African Broadcasting Corporation” and decided to simply enjoy the work of others.

Later on, he became a radio Deejay at Teemaneng Radio in Kimberly. He was a Deejay at Kouga FM in the Eastern Cape, which eventually shut down due to the Covid pandemic. He was approached by a “Defence Force” radio station where he resigned due to the ridiculous demands regarding his music. He also created “talk shows” on this station. After he left, that station went totally “Unlive”.

He decided to create Rockbox! Radio, due to his passion and not being able to enjoy any of the commercial stations due to repetition of songs, as well as the content.

He then expanded Rockbox! Radio to play 24/7 (selecting the music) and does a “Live” show, (The Underground) on Wednesdays and Fridays from 6pm South African time where he plays his personal favourites. He loves finding “fresh” music and is well read on his favourite bands, being Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Alan Parsons, Gary Moore, Stevie Ray Vaughan amongst others.

At this stage Rockbox! Radio is enjoyed by thousands of listeners from many countries including Africa, many countries in Europe, the Middle East, the Far East, Asia, Canada, USA, Mexico and South American countries. A truly international station!
